Day 01: Arrive Delhi
On arrival, you will be greeted and assisted by our representative and
transferred to the Hotel.
Day 02: Delhi
After breakfast visit Red Fort - the 17th century imposing fortress. Also visit
Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque), India's largest mosque where more than 20,000
people can kneel in prayer and Raj Ghat -Mahatma Gandhi's Memorial.
In the afternoon, visit New Delhi. You will drive past President's Palace and
India Gate (42m high), built to commemorate the 70,000 Indian soldiers who died
in the 1st world war. Later visit Humayun's Tomb, which is one of the remarkable
structures of the Mughal Empire in India. It was the first garden-tomb on the
Indian subcontinent.
Overnight at the Hotel
IMP: Red Fort is closed on Monday.
Day 03: Delhi - Amritsar
This morning you are transferred to railway station to board your train to
Amritsar. You will be met at the Railway Station and transferred to your hotel.
In the late afternoon, visit the Wagha Border - the international border between
India and Pakistan where the pomp and pageantry of the Beating Retreat & Change
of Guard ceremonies make for a most charming spectacle.
Day 04: Amritsar
After breakfast enjoy sightseeing of Amritsar. The city of Amritsar is the
capital of Punjab and one of the holy city of the Sikhs. The sightseeing of
Amritsar comprises a visit to the Golden temple, one of the holiest of Sikh
shrines and the complex has important edifices such as the Akal Takht and the
Harmandir Sahib and the holy pond surrounding it.
Also in Amritsar is the Jallian Wala Bagh - notorious for the massacre that took
place here under British rule. In 1919 General Dyer personally led the troops to
this walled ground and ordered his men open fire on a group of peaceful
protestors. At the east end of the garden there is a large memorial built in
memory of those who died here.
Day 05: Amritsar - Dharamshala
After breakfast, drive to Dharamshala. Dharamshala has monasteries representing
all the three important sects of Buddhism. The right place indeed to get
introduced to one of the most popular religions of the world.
Rest of the day is at leisure
Day 06: Dharamshala
After breakfast, visit the monasteries in Mc Leod Ganj and also the famous
residence of Noble Laureate the 'Dalai Lama'. Dharamshala is divided into two
distinct parts : lower Dharamshala the civil and business area with Courts and
Kotwali bazar and upper Dharamshala composed of places like Mcleod Ganj and
Forsyth Ganj Upon arrival in the arrival hall our representative will receive
you and guide you to your vehicle. Drive to your designated hotel The Imperial.
Our representative will assist you with the check-in formalities and inform you
of your next day’s program.
After visiting the monasteries, we shall then visit the Tibetan Norbulinga
Institute where Tibetans learn to paint the Thangkas, stitch garments and craft
articles of wood. The museum close by is equally interesting. Thereafter visit
to the Tibetan Astro institute, with its college, the library and the unique
museum. The Tibetan government in exile is spread all over here.
Day 07: Dharamshala - Pragpur
After breakfast, drive to Pragpur. Pragpur is India’s first heritage village
lies in the Dhauladhar mountain ranges of Kangra valley.
Day 08: Pragpur
Visit the twin heritage villages of Garli & Pragpur by walk.
The twin villages of Pragpur and Garli in Himachal Pradesh are a well-preserved
memory of days gone by, with old mansions, cobbled streets and more
Day 09: Pragpur - Shimla
After breakfast, drive to Shimla. It is a very popular holiday-retreat during
the summer months and is well-known for its Victorian architecture, which is
reflected in certain areas of the Mall and The Ridge.
Day 10: Shimla - Heritage Walk
After breakfast drop at Chauran Maidan. We start the climb to the State Museum
perched on Inverarm hill, a display of Himachal’s heritage, culture and history.
After a look-see, a short trail leads past Peterhoff, the initial sight of the
viceroy’s residence in an expanded English-country cottage.
Beyond Inverarm lies the former Viceregal Lodge atop Observatory hill. The
building now houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, and even today,
colonial grandeur and nostalgia for a long–gone way of life can be experienced.
This was the official residence of the British Viceroy of India. Within its
walls were marked some of the most momentous events of Indian history –
including the decision to partition India.
A trail past the Viceregal Lodge leads to Boileauganj, a tiny Shimla suburb and
a steep climb from the bazaar leads to the top of Prospect Hill, the peak houses
a tiny temple and offers a panoramic view of Shimla and its surroundings. From
here we retrace our steps back to hotel through the bazaar and past a cottage in
which Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore had once stayed.
Return to Chauran Maidan and drive back to the hotel for a relaxing evening.
Day 11: Shimla
Day to relax and explore on your own.
Day 12: Shimla - Delhi
Morning in time transfer to Shimla railway station for a joy ride till Solan on
the Toy Train which is also a World Heritage Site. Pick up again from Solan
station and drive by surface to Kalka to board the evening train to Delhi.
Day 13: Delhi - Onward Journey
In time transfer to the airport to connect flight for onward journey.
